Bay Windows

Bay windows refer to the specially designed windows that create a niche in a house filled with light. They are very common in houses with Victorian architecture and in some modern designed schools.

Usually, bay windows are incorporated in homes overlooking a sweeping meadow or ocean as these windows can highlight a stunning view. Many home owners prefer bay windows designed with window seats so that people can sit in the windows and enjoy the view while listening to music, eating snacks, drinking wine or reading a book. Bay windows come in two basic styles. The first type can be considered a “box” window, the type that is designed to be filled with ornaments or plants. This type of bay windows is common in standard homes. The other type of bay windows is designed to be a part of a floor to ceiling polygonal shape. The most common shape for bay window designs is the trapezoidal shape, with the narrowest part of the shape facing out.

Once the full bay windows are installed, the resulting space can be used for various purposes. A window seat or a breakfast nook can be installed for large enough bay windows while for box types, the area can be used to display art, framed pictures and plants.
